I have recently become obsessed with two new phenomenons that have entered my life. One of the listening kind, and the other of viewing pleasure. Both have equally taking over in such an odd way, yet definitely have thundered in new qualities in both respects that i have never taken into account before.

The first, is Lifestyle marketing by Thes One. This two disc cd found its way into my hands for only three bucks, i was skeptical at first but it quickly shut down my skepticism and opened me up to another beat conductor of great respect. The cd’s concept is that of taking samples from Herb Philofer, a great jazz musician who had a knack making catching jingles for commercials. And from this sample base Thes one, takes his mpc in hand and beautifully masters tracks that simply are to great to contain in your car speakers. My favorite track on the cd is northwestern bell.

It came out in 2007, but i have never even heard of this guy till now so its still a little bit of a secret. Any person with a good head on them should invest. I’m sticking to Thes one trail like glue.

The other re hashed sort of discovery is George Lucas’s first film, THX 1138. This film is simply mindblowing. I think of how the future could be and I think George Lucas actually knows the future already at times just because of how amazingly detailed the worlds are. The movie is about a guy named THX-1138 and his rebellion against a soul numbing, number crunching society. It can appear completely complicated at times because of how subtle the symbols are but it simply is worth it. The way this movie is shot, no wonder Lucas blew up. The cutting and editing and the abstract shots that convey so much in such little time is what makes movies the powerful medium that it is. And the other thing that most film makers have forgotten is innovation on a budget. Most movies today have big budgets and such to try and make the movie better but from what i have seen there is no need to always have the big bucks backing you. The best scene is when THX is racing away in this fast sexy car from the two robo cops on bikes. Its pretty epic. It was a pretty life changing moment.

Its definitely good to have this kind of stuff as an influence.
