So the other day when i went to this book store in the Oregon District, i made a little purchase. There was so much vintage reading material in this place, but this magazine stuck out for some reason. The cover had on it Youth of ‘66. When i saw that i was wondering what the youth were doing then, as compared to the youth now, the generation i am apart of currently. Also the magazine looked really cool and had cool pictures so i decided to drop the 5 dollars on it and give it a look over. It turned out to be a cool way to look at the past and draw inspiration.
The magazine as a whole is really big, but i really like that format. Interview magazine is pretty big like that.
A question i don’t think many kids ask themselves to much now a days. Which is interesting in my mind.
when i saw this girl and read what she said, i really wanted to know what kind of person she had become. I mean look at what she was about.
this article written by a youth was by far the best one. I felt like i could have had a good conversation with him. He said interesting things. I want to know where he is now as well.
the ad’s were the best.
the coolest pictures came from this section. London was on it.
I don’t know why but this ad seemed so crazy to me.
then there was this painting by a name that seemed familiar.
I hit up my local Barnes and nobles with a little cash at hand so i decided to go and invest on what contributes to about half of my knowledge data base. Of course what i speak of is magazines. I think people need to start picking them up more not only because its awesome to have some really cool cover of a good magazine on your coffee table, but also because stuff on paper is so much better than something online. You can’t touch anything online, there is just something more about having that magazine in your hand you go through the ad’s and review them, or you read a amazing interview, or view some spectacular images from some photography. Digital is amazing don’t get me wrong but i don’t think its just as cool as having that GQ in your hand. Hey that’s why i want to make my zine because i like paper, and for you environmentalist, i know we can use recycled paper and things to that effect. MAGAZINES ARE AWESOME. My pick ups at for this specific trip we’re the new complex, URB, GQ style, Interview magazine, Metro pop, and The Fader. My favorite cover so far this month though would have to be The Faders cover, because its TV on the Radio and the cover looks just like there music, Awesome. Even though Complex had Marisa Miller on there cover as well which is not bad in itself. check them out and get some good reading material and stimulate that mind of yours with something concrete.
This is what magazines have been needing for a while. For those who dont know magazines have been in a slump, because people just don’t by them as much anymore with the web being the one stop hub for information( i have more to say on this subject, but ill save that for another day). Anyways Innovations are need to keep magazines moving and following and this just could be it. Its actually quite stunning when you think about the concept of electronic ink on the cover in your magazine, or for some ad. Its pretty damn ill if you ask me, and just makes me want to have a magazine of my own, which is actually a upcoming project so stay tuned for that. but for now please view the next couple steps to possibly elevate magazines back up as a top source of information. This is creative thinking and i love that.
