My drive thru

July 23, 2008

So you think that just adding a couple stars to your ads and marketing campaign is going to instantly be a big payoff? Not at all, things could go way south, why do you ask? because as consumers we can see through the bullshit of someone just doing a commercial for the money and not really showing them true self’s in the ads, which does not make it genuine so why do i need the product. But here, as you will see below is it done very well. Converse teamed up with Pharrell, Santogold, and Julian Casablancas, to create a original song for there 100Th anniversary. That song is so awesome because its so them, its what those artist are. Its not some BS thrown together catchy song written by some lame suited man who knows nothing that’s hip. Converse asked them to be in the ad and the did there thing to show that product in the way the know how, and its GENUINE. So awesome i love this shit.

It’s Cool

July 15, 2008

So I have been on alot of new things lately. Taking on new views, doing things a bit differently, and getting in to things that are a bit different. In doing so that lead to me going and picking up Chasing Cool, this amazing book that goes into pop culture and tries to figure out why certain brands have become cool, and how did they do it. Its basically about the Business of cool. Its funny straight from the beginning, of the book they hit you in the face quickly about saying this book is not about chasing cool. Honestly one of the best, and maybe important reads in my life, just because of the content inside. i won’t spoil everything but, if your interested in marketing or business, or just like inside creative projects and want to be relevant, believe me this book is here to help.

so this whole pop culture thing got thinking about what i see everyday. I had a heightened to watch for things that the book took the time to call out and explain. And a awesome reference of cool as pop culture working, or whats cool, is the new absolut ads that i see everywhere featuring who else then one of the coolest people i can think of. Kanye west. Once you read the book you will find out why this is a good example of things working together to make cool and something that sells. I love seeing things be put into real time use.

One of the coolest things i can think of immediately that i liked that was said in the book came from Russell Simmons he said, “Simply chasing cool is really a bad idea; inspired by cool is a great idea. Walk the street, see what’s going on, and spit it out in your own way. Don’t do it because you research it, do it because you breathe it.” Man Inspiration for days.
